I’ve Fallen … (And I CAN get up!)

When you were a child, and you fell on the pavement playing kickball, did you sit on the ground, crying, and watch everyone else continue to play? Of course not! (Unless you broke a bone … That’s another story.)  You got up, dusted off your pants, and kept playing the game. If Shannon Miller had given up on gymnastics every time she fell, would she be the most decorated American gymnast today?
So why as adults do we feel that it is the end of the world if we fall down in life? That is an excellent question. We all fall down. Falling down makes you appreciate the ‘ups.’ You learn lessons from your mistakes when you fall down, and those missteps you took are life’s lessons that help you to grow. Whether it is as a business owner, a spouse, or whatever your role may be, falling down is part of the journey. On your life’s path, you won’t step in that large pothole again if you know it makes you fall, or step on that wasp with a bare foot because you know how much it stings. You will swerve to avoid that large branch swinging in the breeze. You will do that because once before, you didn’t and it made you fall.

Today I was supposed to launch my new blog on #weddingwednesday. After reviewing the work that another person had done for me last year extensively for three hours, it became clear I would need to start over from scratch. Fall down! After taking a lunch break, I realized that launching a few days late isn’t the end of the world. Once again, my creative juices started flowing and the site is well on its way to being up and running on Friday.

There are days when a little hiccup like this would make me huddle into a fetal position and cry. This mishap could have been ‘the end of my world.’ But today it wasn’t, and that means it’s time for my peach boots to keep on walking through my life journey!

Tasty Tuesday Snickerdoodle Protein Shake #tastytuesday

This is one of the go-to recipes in our household! It is a protein shake that tastes like Snickerdoodle cookies! All the taste, all the good stuff, nothing that is bad for you.

Tips and modifications for this recipe. Bottoms up! Kpl 🙂

*For lower carbs, substitute liquid Stevia for the honey. (Truvia is stevia with bad preservatives — but that’s another blog!

*Using the PB2 option you can use your blender bottle to stir. Otherwise with natural peanut butter you will need your Ninja. Costco has an amazing organic powdered peanut butter that is significantly less expensive than PB2 and tastes a ton better!

*I like mine ‘on the rocks’ — meaning on ice.

Do you need a social media detox?

In today’s media driven world, do you want a simple detox that tastes great, doesn’t require you to eat any different foods or more water, and is guaranteed to shed weight? Well, here it is! It’s a one day social media detox — you simply unplug!

Think about how many hours a day you spend on the internet. What exactly do you do? During the week I use it for work purposes, but at night I am typically on Facebook learning more about my friends than I ever wanted to know, reading tabloids about people who don’t even know my name, and watching shows that will likely be cancelled in a few years. (My husband — well, he loves the 20/20 and Dateline shows about people who have been murdered who he has never met and whose families have no idea he is watching it!)

Why do we waste our lives away with all of this information? Think about the person who tells you more than you want to know — isn’t your first reaction “TMI,” too much information? That information is the extra weight, weighing you and your ability to focus on bettering your own life and situation. What if you took that approach with your social media and television? Last weekend my husband and I spent a day going around town, running errands and enjoying the beautiful weather. We both felt so refreshed when we came home even though we had walked 5,000 steps!

I challenge you, this week, to take one day to unplug. No social media, no TV…music is ok. The next day, see if you feel more relaxed. This is why I typically unplug on Sundays. The Lord said that we should keep ‘the Sabbath day holy,’ so no work on Sundays. (Unless I have a wedding, which are typically at a church anyways, so hopefully God sees it as a good compromise!) Or choose A DAY this week to unplug — just from social media. I guarantee you will feel a lot less overwhelmed, you won’t compare your life to someone else, and you will focus on the beautiful life you have in front of you. And you will focus on making that grass greener for you, your family, and those you share your life with!

So who is ready for this detox? Kpl 🙂

Living a #peachykeenlife with KPL!

Peachykeenlife peachy keen life Kathy Piech-Lukas
Kathy Piech-Lukas, dreamcoach, wedding planner, lupus survivor, leading a peachy keen life

This blog has been years in the making — since I was a child, my nickname has been ‘peachy.’ Perhaps it is because my maiden name is ‘Piech,’ pronounced like the fruit. Or maybe my outgoing, bubbly personality made the nickname stick. For whatever reason, it is a big reason why I hyphenated my last name. (I adore my husband, but ‘have a Lukas day just doesn’t have the same ring to it!)

For the past 18 years I have worked in marketing, communications, public relations and event planning. Twelve of those have been spent planning weddings as the owner of Your Dream Day. And while I love weddings, there is so much more to me that white dresses, flowers and stacked cakes. That voice, which is the rest of me, has been drowned out by the wedding bells. I don’t want to be married to Your Dream Day 100% of the time — there are other parts to me that make me who I am. That is what #peachykeenlife is all about. Everything else that is KPL.

During the past year, I lost 40 pounds by eating clean, organic and healthy, and following a workout program with Beachbody. A lot of that weight was gained years ago compliments of all the medicines I had to take to combat my lupus. So while the drugs saved my life, they also made me gain 70 pounds in six weeks. I am finally on the path to conquering that battle! So this is the HEALTHY LIFE part of #peachykeenlife.

Since starting Your Dream Day, colleagues have always considered me a website, SEO, and social media geek. I get requests all the time from people wanting help with their social media, or the ‘talk to me like I’m five so I can understand’ request. I will be teaching social media intensives on Mondays in Cincinnati, Tuesdays in Dayton, and one on one with those who want it. This is the SOCIAL LIFE part of #peachykeenlife.

As a wedding professional and small business owner for twelve years, I have had wedding professionals and other small business owners ask me for help them with planning their events (like sales meetings, grand openings, and holiday parties), their marketing, and PR. So this will be the BUSINESS LIFE of #peachykeenlife.

Lastly, what is life without inspiration! Quotes and words of wisdom will be the HAPPY LIFE part of #peachykeenlife. On the bad days, and if I am surrounded by negative people and dramatic situations, sometimes I need to remind myself to have the happy lofe attitude!

I am excited to finally embrace this part of me and hope that you too will join me on this journey!
